Southern Washington Babe Ruth was formed after the 1987 baseball season by the split of Washington State Babe Ruth into two new State organizations; North and South Washington. This was the second such split to occur in the Pacific Northwest Region of Babe Ruth League; some years ago Oregon had been split into the North and South.
At the time of the split, both new organizations contained roughly the number of 13/15 leagues and both included Bambino as well as 16/18 leagues. At the initial organizational meeting in October of 1987, five (5) Districts were created, setting up 6 team State Tournaments for the 13/15 Division. Within a couple of years, District 6 (Pierce County) was created, and after Pasco, Kennewick, and Richland entered the program, District 5 was split and District 7 came into being. At the present time there are six (6) districts. Districts 4 and 6 were combined in the 1998 season and so were Districts 5 and 7. In 1999 District 3 split into two districts creating a new District 6.
By 1993 the Bambino Division had grown such that we decided to allow them to create their own State organization, resulting in the creation of Southern Washington 13/18 Babe Ruth and Southern Washington Bambino Babe Ruth Leagues.
Southern Washington Babe Ruth teams have acquitted themselves well along the Babe Ruth Tournament Trail. In the 33 Babe Ruth 13/18 World Series conducted since the birth of the organization, teams from Southern Washington have represented the Pacific Northwest Region 19 times. Four times teams from this organization have won a Babe Ruth World Series; Hazel Dell Metro (Two @ 13/15) and Ryder Construction (2 @ 16/18).
The following table shows the State Champions for the years 1987 thru 2008.
